Simply Red are to film a live DVD in Cuba at the end of August. Several UK radio stations will be running competitions over the next few weeks for people to go over there to watch the show and we hope some of you who visit us regularly will be among the winners!

Mick went over to Cuba recently to check out the Havana Teatro where the filming will take place - he also got to meet local musicians, some of whom will take part in the show.

In the meantime there are still a few tickets available for the special warm up show at Shepherd`s Bush Empire in London a week before Cuba - don`t miss out on this small intimate show, click here to buy tickets.

There are also tickets available for an album listening party in the afternoon, you can be one of the first people in the world to hear SIMPLIFIED if you come along! At the listening party we will also be previewing a 10 minute documentary which was filmed when Mick was in Cuba recently - you may have to wait until November to see this otherwise.

Simply Red llega a Cuba para grabar y dar conciertos

LA HABANA (AP) - Atrapados por la sonoridad de la música cubana, los integrantes de la banda británica "Simply Red" llegaron a la isla para grabar un DVD y dar dos conciertos en esta capital.

"Me encanta el sonido de la música cubana", dijo a periodistas durante una conferencia de prensa, Mick Huckmall, vocalista del grupo y su principal artífice.

Para el compositor, el uso de los vientos, especialmente el Publicidad
saxofón y el trombón son una verdadera inspiración para su trabajo caracterizado por la fusión del soul, el funk y el pop.

Según las autoridades culturales isleñas, Huckmall pidió permiso primero para realizar un vídeo en la isla y finalmente accedió a dar dos conciertos, el próximo viernes y sábado.

Venir a la isla fue "una gran idea" de su representante, indicó el creador, para quien su gira por la nación caribeña no tiene ninguna connotación política y le servirá para intercambiar con músicos locales.

Huckmall, uno de los más populares vocalistas británicos desde el lanzamiento de su banda en los 80s, indicó que estaba listo su nuevo disco "Simplified".

Los británicos forman parte de una racha de presentaciones de músicos angloparlantes en Cuba, luego de los conciertos de la banda Audioslave y de Rick Wakeman.

Simply-Red-Sänger auf der Bühne angegriffen

Für Simply-Red-Sänger Mick Hucknall ist ein Auftritt auf Kuba äußerst unerfreulich zu Ende gegangen: Mitten in der Show sprang ein junger Mann auf die Bühne und attackierte den 45-Jährigen vor den Augen seiner erschrockenen Band und Hunderten von Fans. Das berichtet die britische Zeitung "The Sun".

Dem Bericht zufolge schlug Hucknall zurück und stieß den Mann in den Orchestergraben. Sofort danach beendete er seinen Auftritt mit den Worten: "Vielen Dank und gute Nacht. Das ist das Ende der Show." Der Angreifer wurde später verhaftet.

Hucknalls Manager Ian Grenfell äußerte sich sehr besorgt über den Zwischenfall. "Es war grotesk", sagte er. "Was uns ernsthaft beunruhigt, ist, dass wir keine Ahnung haben, was der Grund für die Attacke war."
